Drink More Water

Chris has plenty of time to think as he waits for night duty in Iraq. It’s a parched land there, and his request to his family back home is to “drink more water” as he tries to find humor in his daily living.

Jesus says in John 7:37 “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him.”

Let us not forget those who are serving for our freedom. And additionally, to pray for our enemies, as they too are thirsty and lack the “Living Water” that only Jesus can provide.

A special blessing to my nephew Chris today.

Cookie sheets and Divorce

It occurred to me as I was scrubbing my “new” KitchenAid cookie sheet that it now looked no different than the old one. My original cookie sheet had been given to me by my former mother-in-law many years ago. It had shown wear when she gave it to me, but I cherished it, as it baked the best cookies ever. After my divorce of 21 years and several more years of use, I decided to pitch the cherished cookie sheet. It wasn’t performing like I thought it should anymore and it looked awful!

Like divorce, it’s so easy to cast off that which seems to not work anymore. We think the wear from guilt and shame is too big a burden. It can’t be “scrubbed off” and maybe the best way out is to "get out". Fortunately, we serve a God that does not cast us out no matter how much “junk” we have on us. He says “Cast all your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you.” Ps. 55:22

Fixer upper......

My DH and I were married last St. Patrick's day and purchased his parents home (a fixer upper), which is over 120 yrs. old, from their estate. At 50 something, with 7 grown children and 11 grandchildren between us, and starting life over again in marriage, one might say this might not have been a wise decision...but we can only say how "blessed" we are. With enough projects to last us until we're gone, we just pick one once in awhile and hope for the best. This blog was named RedBudPlace as we have 9+ Redbud trees to date and when they are in bloom, the yard is a mass of pink!

My mother and father moved from the Midwest a few years ago at my father's request. My parents had the same phone number for over 50 years (can you imagine) and their friends, family and quilting buddies were all rooted here. It was my mothers choosing to submit and off to Georgia they went. Mom misses the change in seasons, but God knows our hearts and doesn't forget us even in the hard decisions we have to make. (Jas 5:10 & 11)

Happy Mother's Day! from RedBudPlace
